We love furniture that wears its history proudly, and this is one of those pieces where restoring it too far would erase exactly what makes it special.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWe're not entirely sure what its original purpose was, and that's part of what drew us to it. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWas it a turn of the century luxury chaise, or perhaps a hospital recovery lounger built to make long periods of rest a little more comfortable?\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e It's unusual proportions and construction leave just enough mystery that we may never know for certain.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eOur plan is to remove only the loose paint, gently sand what remains, and clear coat the entire frame, preserving the mix of exposed aged wood, flaking yellow paint, and more than a century of character.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFrom there, we'll build two thick, overstuffed cushions in mohair, creating a deliberate contrast between the beautifully weathered frame and crisp new upholstery. Of course, it doesn't have to be mohair.
