Sometimes the story is simply where you find it. We purchased this chair on the streets of Chicago from someone selling furniture on the sidewalk.
What caught our attention was the frame. Attributed to Joe Atkinson for Thonet, the chair is built around beautifully formed bent plywood, with the front legs flowing continuously upward to become the arms and a separate curved support carrying the floating upholstered back.
It was exactly the kind of piece that's easy to overlook in its current condition. The existing upholstery is tired, the foam has seen better days, and the wood shows decades of use—but underneath it is an exceptionally clean mid-century form waiting to be brought back.
This chair will receive a complete restoration before delivery. We'll completely refinish the wood frame, replace the existing foam, and fully reupholster the seat and back in the fabric of your choice.
Found on the streets of Chicago, to be restored by Normalish.
