It's a beanbag chair without the beans, but on a space age metal frame.
Designed by Carl-Henrik Spak for Ulferts Fabriker AB in Tibro, Sweden, the Klacken is a wonderfully strange piece of 1970s Swedish design. A minimal white tubular steel frame sits on chunky molded feet, supporting two enormous, loose cushions that give the chair its low, overstuffed silhouette.
What initially feels like a beanbag is actually a little more interesting. Rather than conventional solid foam, the original Klacken cushions were filled with shredded synthetic foam. Different pieces compress and move against one another, allowing the cushions to slump, bulge, and reshape themselves while providing substantially more structure than a traditional beanbag.
For the restoration, we'll completely rebuild both cushions in the fabric and color of your choice and refill them using the same concept—a mixture of shredded foam in multiple densities—to preserve that intentionally overstuffed, almost pillow like appearance. The original frame and feet will also be refinished to a color of your choosing.
Made in Tibro, Sweden. Sourced in Chicago, to be restored by Normalish.
