One of the first pieces we ever found, from our very first estate sale.

We pulled this WWII-era steel and glass Yawman & Erbe cabinet from a small single-family home on the far South Side of Chicago. Back at the shop, we began disassembling it so we can strip away the existing finish and rust before repainting it.

Somewhere along the way, we fell in love with it exactly as it was.

Rather than erase nearly 80 years of age, we decided to preserve the cabinet’s existing finish, patina, and evidence of how it was made. Look closely and you can still see where the steel door frames were brazed together.
